The Five C's of Shared Spaces

At ETW, we are excited by the trend toward team-based collaborative spaces. We love the idea of giving workers a higher degree of choice regarding where they work most effectively with a group or even on their own. We listened to discussions at Neocon about the “5 Cs” of this trend: coffee, CNN, connectivity to the web, comfort, and centralized location (such as the cafeteria) and enjoy brainstorming on how to best deliver these options to our clients while also delivering great looking, well-planned spaces.

Who's Got the Space?

One of the trends being talked about in 2011 was the flattening and democratization of office space. More and more participants reported seeing senior management losing space – first, because they have it but also because they are out of the office more than other team members. Progressive companies are leveraging this trend by giving execs multiple options on where to work, not only with office space but also at home, and places like Starbuck’s, airport lounges and hotels .

Welcome to the Environments That Work blog! The ETW team looks forward to using this space as a forum to comment on our industry and keep you updated on the exciting projects that we are undertaking at Environments That Work.

The primary contributors to this blog are Randy Leggee, Director of Business Development; and Ryan Anderson, Director of Sales. Both have a lot to say and look forward to receiving comments from readers and visitors to spur lively discussion and inspire future content.

Both Randy and Ryan are very active within their local Chambers of Commerce, Ryan in St. Charles and Randy in Crystal Lake. One of the committees that Randy belongs to is Leaders in Action, a 36-year tradition at the Crystal Lake Chamber that features prominent speakers in an 8 week series that runs from January into March. Randy’s commitment to the group involves identifying and nominating speakers, and reviewing and interviewing the finalists. If you are participating in this outstanding program, you will surely meet him as he will be present at most of these breakfast seminars to assist!
